Marina di Bibbona

Marina di Bibbona is situated in the very heart of the suggestive Etruscan Coast. Along the coast, you can see wide free beaches and equipped beaches living next to a centuries old pinewood. The beach is also characterised by the dunes, which witness a natural and uncontaminated environment.

On the beach you can also see the fortress built by the French in the 1700’s. In Bibbona an nearby places you can enjoy several kinds of naturalistic paths: trekking, mountain bike or horse rides and ecologic walks such as those in the macchia (forest) di Magona or the Padule of Bolgheri.

The Etruscan Coast

The Etruscan coast extends itself from Livorno to the Piombino promontory. It is rocky until it reaches the area of Castiglioncello, and it becomes sandy near Cecina and Bibbona for 45 km until Baratti, where the hills of Piombino begin. Tourists particularly like this coast because of its mild weather, limpid sea and the sea resorts alternating with areas of free beaches. Far from the coast, there are the hill chains. In the several natural parks in the Calafuria promontorym such as the Poggetti’s park, the Padule della Contessa, or the faunal haunt Padule di Bolgheri, you can enjoy naturalistic walks among different species of animals. South the Calafuria you find the beautiful promontory of Piombino, which ends into the sea, and forms the beautiful gulf of Baratti. The scenery is overlooked by a tower on the opposite end of the gulf, Populonia is on the horizon. Going up to the small village, you can see one of the most beautiful landscapes of the Tuscan coast. They may lie in different places – along the sea, on the inner hills or wrapped up in the quiet countryside, but each village on the Etruscan coast has some wonderful feature. The typical dishes of this area are the cacciucco alla livornese and the bitter sweet wild boar. In the area near Bolgheri some of the most famous wines in the world are made.

Bolgheri

Bolgheri, situated in the centre of the Etruscan Coast and not far from Bibbona, is famous for the Viale dei Cipressi, depicted in the famous poem "Davanti a San Guido" by Giosuč Carducci, who lived there from 1838 to 1848. The landscape of the countryside is enchanting, with its cultivated fields and the typical colours of the Tuscan countryside. At the end of the Viale, you can enter the village passing under an arch, which helps to create the atmosphere you will find inside the village itself. On the front there is the castle, whose red bricks contrast with the green of the olive plants and cypresses which surround it. Here everything has kept its original aspect, and it seems like time has stopped. The centre seems to have kept its originalancent urbanistic structure. Bolgheri is famous for its wine as well, made in the near countrysides, and because it hosts famous race horses. For lovers of nature and birdwatching, an interesting place is the faunal haunt called "Padule di Bolgheri".
